Fun Ideas for Unity Candles

Think outside the box if you want candle as a part of the wedding ceremony. According to tradition, Unity candle comprises three candles, the bride having one, the groom the other and their two lighted candles lighting the third candle.





This is done in order to represent unity in diversity. Two people coming to make one unit. Sometimes, family members, the methods of the bride and groom, or other close members of the family are invited to participate in the unity candle lighting. Of late having a unity candle at the ceremony has become almost extinct and brides expect the ceremony to be as brief as possible in order to plan for the reception. Unity candle can be taken out of the ceremony and made an integral part of the reception.

To execute this idea the votive candle option can be tried or unity candle lighting can be incorporated into the reception activities by selecting a quiet moment in the reception to light the unity candle. This may be done during a short prayer before serving the meal or before the cake is cut. The unity candle, then, can be decorating the cake table. As the bride and groom cut the cake and pieces are served to the guests the candle symbolizes the couples new bond shared with all the guests also.

Though unity candle is not indispensable at the wedding or reception, many brides and grooms include it with all the wedding planning activities, it should be remembered that it can be made unique, interesting and special to the couple getting married in many years.
