Wedding Weekend Activities

As families are spread a part weekend weddings have become popular beginning Friday night, continuing on Saturday and concluding with a post wedding break fast on Sunday before other return home.

It is easy to plan weekend activities for these weekend celebrations provided you offer fun according to the needs of every one. If it is a formal wedding with a sit down dinner you should ban a formal rehearsal dinner and replace it with an informal barbecue dinner or picnic.

To engage people on the long weekend, if a lake is nearby, plan a day at the lake on Saturday replete with the pre wedding activities like swimming races and beach volleyball.

A popular pre wedding activity is a scavenger hunt. Make a list of meaningful items and let the guest be in two teams. The list should have instructions like “get a brochure from the jewelry store where the groom bought bride’s ring” or “take a picture of the group at the location where the couple got engaged” You will have to tailor the scavenger hunt list to the place of the wedding and the energy of the participating guests.

The winners of the scavenger hunt game can be awarded lavish prices like gift certificates, gourmet food and wine baskets. The guests intimate with the bride or the groom are divided into groups and they can even be mixed up for fun. The teams can be like friends vs. family or men vs. women.

Competitive activities like baseball or flag football are popular weekend activities. Offer prizes for performance. First home run gets a kiss from the bride or make silly rules like the bridal party wearing tiaras while running bases or grooms family wearing having their shirts on backwards.

As the weekend will be expensive for guests who fly to the wedding, many of the activities should be free or inexpensive. If they are more expensive and planned for the whole group, they should be paid for by the bride or the groom.

There are, of course, many inexpensive activities like the scavenger hunt that can provide a big bang for the little buck. For the family of the wedding guest you can arrange a movie viewing even including home movies from both bride and groom’s families. You can for fun, mix up the movies and have the guests to guess which family’s videos they are watching. This may appear easy but it will be very difficult if the bride and groom are babies in the photos.
